MY APPROACH
A relational therapist in Boston
for people eager to get un-stuck.
Welcome to my practice, I’m glad you’ve found yourself here. I'm Julia (she/her), a practicing clinical social worker (LICSW) of nearly a decade. Since completing my Master’s, I’ve worked with adults across a wide range of backgrounds and circumstances, including those navigating substance use, relapse, and recovery, trauma, anxiety and depression, high-pressure careers and academic environments, perfectionism, grief, relationship difficulties, and major life transitions. My therapeutic approach is rooted in advanced training in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). I also participate in ongoing consultation with trusted colleagues and experts in the field.
I approach therapy with the belief that our struggles make more sense when we consider the full context of our lives, which requires us to look at the relationships we’re part of, the identities we hold, the environments we move through, and the social and structural forces that shape our options for living and being. My goal as a therapist is to create a space where those complexities can be explored honestly, while using evidence-based approaches to help you build a life that feels more aligned with what matters to you.
to feel respected
This is where our work together comes in.
I pay attention to what happens between us.
A sigh, change of subject, or reaction to something I've said can tell us something. I'll share what I notice, when I notice it, so we can enhance your awareness of what's happening for you in the moment.
We learn how to make space for difficult inner experiences.
I draw from my advanced training in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) to help you shift your relationship to uncomfortable thoughts and feelings, particularly when attempting to challenge or change them isn't giving you relief.
I'm an active participant in session.
I bring my own presence and curiosity into the room as part of our shared process of understanding you. We work together to help you notice your instincts, urges, and patterns of participation in therapy as a way to create change in your life outside the space.
Skills and practical tools are part of my approach.
Symptom management is important. I integrate principles from my advanced certification in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to help you shift your response to distress and take action towards reducing it.

A space for meaningful work.
I created Commonwealth Psychotherapy to offer the kind of therapy I believe in: transformative treatment built on a solid therapeutic relationship.
The environment we meet in is an important part of that, which is why I offer sessions at my office downtown and virtually, so you can access therapy in the format that feels right to you.
